7 Huge Marvel Reveals We Spotted In The Infinity War Trailer
Did you watch it? I almost didn't want to. We're so close to Avengers: Infinity War, so any looks at new trailers might only spoil some big reveals. But sure enough, I caved and played the final full trailer for Joe and Anthony Russo's Avengers: Infinity War... and sure enough, I learned a lot.
Naturally, we are going to have to dig deep into some major spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War here, so if you avoided the trailer and somehow landed in this feature, turn back now before the fun begins. Because we're starting off with a major confirmation involving the purple Mad Titan.
Thanos Fights The Avengers In WakandaHow is that a real sentence that I just typed? And not just typed, but watched happen in a trailer? The Marvel Cinematic Universe have made leaps and bounds in establishing itself as a sprawling world populated by amazing heroes in fantastic realms. And in this movie, it's all coming together in new, exciting and unexpected ways. We assumed that Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and their team would face Thanos' minions in Africa. But the trailer ends with this stunning shot of Steve Rogers holding off the Infinity Gauntlet. Will he have the fortitude to prevent Thanos from finding more Stones?
Thanos Gets His Hands On The TesseractThis one could have been deduced using some simple math... and knowledge of the previous trailers. We saw Loki (Tom Hiddleston) handing the Tesseract -- which he stole from Asgard near the end of Thor: Ragnarok -- to someone. Now we know that the someone is Thanos (Josh Brolin), presumably during the scene where the Sanctuary II intersects with Thor's ship in the Ragnarok end credits. What's odd is that in this trailer, Thanos shatters the Tesseract. But I guess he's breaking it down into Gauntlet-sized pebbles to help complete his stylish glove.
Iron Man Will Meet The GuardiansPeter Quill (Chris Pratt) doesn't know that his home planet of Earth has heroes. Not yet, anyway. But this trailer starts to confirm the various pairings that will occur in Avengers: Infinity War, and it looks like Star-Lord and Drax (Dave Bautista) will team up with Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Spider-Man in space. How do they breathe in space? Stark must have invented something. Later on, we also see Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) assisting Quill as he fires blasters at... something. I'm guessing Thanos. We'll know soon enough.
There Will Be FlashbacksWe've been hearing that Avengers: Infinity War will be a Thanos movie. That while it will unite every major member of the MCU in a battle to save the universe, the movie will work overtime to establish Thanos (Josh Brolin) as a relatable villain, and not just a CGI anonymity hellbent on destroying galaxies for no apparent reason. This shot, above, reminds us of that, as there will be flashbacks to Papa Thanos and his "daughter" Gamora (Zoe Saldana), helping to establish an emotional connection that threads through the Mad Titans quest to assemble the Infinity Stones.
We See The Black OrderThanos has a team of his own. It might not have a Falcon, or a War Machine. But we know, and can now see, that the Black Order in Avengers: Infinity War will introduce Corvus Glaive, Ebony Maw, Proxima Midnight and more to the MCU. This scene appears to take place aboard the Sanctuary II, where Loki (Tom Hiddleston) has handed the Tesseract over to Thanos. Nothing good can come from that.
Doctor Strange Is In For ItThe Black Order continues to torment the Marvel heroes, using their unique powers to help Thanos obtain the Infinity Stones. Here, we see the persuasive Ebony Maw (Tom Vaughan-Lawlor) taking some nasty tactics to convince Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to turn over the Time Stone, which he keeps in an amulet around his neck. We don't see that on Thanos' gauntlet later in the trailer, so I'm guessing the standoff in Wakanda is meant to protect both the Time Stone and the Mind Stone... which Vision has.
Iron Man's Suit Gets A Massive UpgradeHow else is Tony Stark going to get to space. His latest armor forms a rocket boost from its legs, powering Iron Man (we assume) through that portal that hovers over New York City. This must be how Iron Man and Spidey get to wherever the Guardians of the Galaxy land. There are so many moving pieces flowing around Avengers: Infinity War. I can hardly believe that Joe and Anthony Russo pulled all of this off.
