New Ant-Man And The Wasp Footage Pokes Fun At Where The Hero Was During Infinity War
It feels like we are still recovering from Avengers: Infinity War, but the Marvel train rolls on and the marketing has started ramping up for Ant-Man and the Wasp, which is mere weeks away. The upcoming MCU film will provide some clarity to the diminutive hero's conspicuous absence from the gigantic battle with Thanos, which was one of the many mysteries coming out of Infinity War. The latest footage from Ant-Man and the Wasp pokes fun at this question, providing a funny look at what Scott Lang has been up to. Check out the latest TV spot for Ant-Man and the Wasp below:
That is brilliant stuff from the marketing department. Starting out the trailer with a typical trailer voice imparting the gravitas of the war with Thanos and the absence of Ant-Man before leading in to Scott Lang being every bit the goofball we expect him to be. There is something of a meta quality to this TV spot, as it seems to be poking fun not just at Ant-Man's absence from this huge event film, but also at all of us for our constant speculation and theorizing as to what his absence means. This footage also does a great job of transitioning audiences from that post-Infinity War sadness and preparing them for the kind of upbeat fun they have come to expect from Marvel movies and are definitely going to get in Ant-Man and the Wasp.
What's also cool about this footage is that it basically answers the question we have had about Ant-Man in the first 15 seconds. We learn, as was touched on in a line of dialogue in Infinity War, that Scott Lang has been on house arrest for two years, and it looks like he has had to get creative to entertain himself during that time. This doesn't answer all of our questions (that's why we see the movie, after all), but it does get that aspect out of the way so you can focus on this new adventure with these characters. This video doesn't touch on the story either, instead letting audiences know about the tone and flavor they will be getting from this movie.
The trailers so far have already shown Scott Lang talking with Evangeline Lilly's Hope van Dyne about the events of Captain America: Civil War and how he assisted Steve Rogers. It seems that the events of Civil War play a significant part in the story and will be referenced throughout the movie. One reference comes as a cheeky Hope makes fun of Scott about his fanboyish friendship with Cap in the TV spot's funniest moment. It's really funny stuff, and I'm totally up for Wasp ribbing Ant-Man throughout the movie about this.
