See What Michael B. Jordan Would Look Like As DCs New Superman

While the DC film universe is still going strong, one of the big questions going forward is exactly what is the future of the company's biggest star. There are apparently no plans for another Superman movie at the moment and indications have been that when that changes, Henry Cavill may not be involved. One name that has popped up attached to the Man of Steel is Michael B. Jordan. Now one artist has done a little graphic arts magic to imagine what Jordan would look like as Superman. Check it out.

I have to say, if Michael B. Jordan as Superman can look this good, this needs to happen right the hell now. Don't wait. Somebody get to writing a script this second.

The talk of Michael B. Jordan playing Superman came out alongside reports that Henry Cavill was no longer attached to the role. The word was that Jordan was one of the names floated as a replacement. While the exact state of Cavill's relationship with DC is unclear, the truth of the situation appears to be that nobody is currently expecting to play Superman anytime soon because there is no movie starring the character expected to go into production anytime soon.

When asked about potentially playing the role, Michael B. Jordan seemed surprisingly open to the idea, though he suggested the way to give him a clean slate and avoid the comparisons to previous actors that was sure to come would be to not play Clark Kent, but instead a Superman from a different DC Comics universe, Calvin Ellis.

The image created by Savage Comics references a different version of Superman all-together, Val-Zod, but really, either version works. With the various different Earths that have been created by DC over the decades there are so many versions of Superman it's hard to keep track of them all, and there's no reason that Michael B. Jordan couldn't play any of them.

On the one hand, it seems crazy that DC doesn't have another Superman movie in the pipeline. He's literally the most popular comic book character ever created, and DC has an entire on-going universe they're trying to create. At the same time, DC clearly has things planned out and for a while and it's hard to see where there would be room for a Superman movie. Shazam!, Wonder Woman 1984 and Birds of Prey are already set to be the next three DC universe films. There's an unrelated Joker movie on the way and Aquaman 2 was just given a release date. Add in the fact that there will be a new Batman movie in there someplace as well, and DC's calendar is getting crowded.

Who knows who the next Superman will be, or when we'll see them, but clearly there are some options out there.

This Rotten Week: Predicting Ant-Man And The Wasp And The First Purge Reviews

With June now being over we've reached the halfway point in 2018, and thus far there's been no bigger success than Marvel Studios. Both Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War were monster hits when they hit theaters, and now the comic book movie franchise is ready to launch another blockbuster - though it will be going toe-to-toe with one of the biggest horror series going. Get ready for Ant-Man and the Wasp and The First Purge.

Just remember, I'm not reviewing these movies, but rather predicting where they'll end up on the Tomatometer. Let's take a look at This Rotten Week has to offer.

A decade or so ago it would have been kind of ridiculous to imagine an Ant-Man movie let alone a sequel - but that's just the world that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has created. The franchise is unquestionably the biggest currently running in Hollywood, and not only are the films making money but they are earning extremely positive reviews - with Black Panther (97%), Avengers: Infinity War (83%), Thor: Ragnarok (92%) and Spider-Man: Homecoming (92%) being the five latest examples. The original Ant-Man did well in this regard as well, earning an 82% back in 2015, and now it looks like Peyton Reed's Ant-Man And The Wasp is going to be another critical hit.

This one picks up in between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, with Paul Rudd doing what he does best as the comedic thief-turned-hero Ant-Man, and this time around he's teaming up with Evangeline Lilly suited up as The Wasp. It looks entertaining, and the 79 reviews already in have it out-pacing the original. In short, Ant-Man And The Wasp definitely won't be the MCU's first Rotten title.

It's been five years since Ethan Hawke first hunkered down in his safe house to ride out the Purge happening in the city streets around him. In that movie we were introduced to an America that let out it's bloodlust and aggression in one big 12-hour orgy of violence once a year. The Purge was interesting, but generally just kind of meh, scoring 38% on the Tomatometer .Subsequent flicks in the franchise have been marginally better with The Purge: Anarchy (56%) and The Purge: Election Year (53%) each scoring just above the halfway mark. Now we walk the story back some, getting a taste of the The First Purge, and from the trailer, it seems we get all of the government conspiracy, creepy masks and egregious violence we can handle.After helming the first three films in the Purge series, James DeMonaco steps away from the director's chair for this one (he still wrote the screenplay), and turns the reins over to Gerard McMurray (Burning Sands - 87%). That being said, it doesn't exactly look like it's missing a beat, as The First Purge looks like more of the same from the universe that fans have grown to appreciate. I doubt it scores big with critics, and probably will dip down a bit compared to the last two installments, but at this point is mostly just working towards its core audience anyway.

Looking back at last week, I was really way off with Uncle Drew (Predicted: 18% Actual: 68%). I've been writing this column for a long time (this is actually number 409), and this is without question one of most inaccurate predictions. I thought this was a money-grabbing commercial put to film, made just as a chance to peddle some stuff and get NBA players on the big screen. I'm shocked it's basically certified fresh with more than 50 reviews in. Critics seemed generally pleased with the silliness and that the basketball players weren't total zeroes on screen. It's tough to be as wrong as I was here, as 50 percentage points off might as well be a million. I airmailed this thing bad.

Meanwhile, Sicario: Day of the Soldado (Predicted: 61% Actual: 63%) was a near bullseye, though it still doesn't take away the sting of the Uncle Drew fiasco. I suspected this sequel wouldn't come super close to the original (which was over 90%), and I was correct on that front. Critics agreed it didn't live up to the Emily Blunt-led Sicario, with Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro not putting together a story that is quite as successful. It isn't a total mess, but apparently not on the level of its predecessor.

Vin Diesels xXx Lawsuit Has Been Revived

After a long hiatus, Vin Diesel brought back the xXx film franchise in 2017 with xXx: Return of Xander Cage. While it had been over a decade since Diesel had played the role, the movie did reasonably well at the box office, at least internationally. However, the production wasn't without its hurdles, including a lawsuit filed by a one of the producers of the original xXx, and while the suit appeared to be gone by May of 2017, an appeals court just brought it back to life.

The suit was filed by George Zakk in May of 2016 against both Vin Diesel specifically as well as Revolution Studios, who previously owned the rights to the xXx franchise. Zakk claimed that as a producer of the original xXx film he was entitled to both credit as well as a share of the profits in any sequels that would come after.

In May of 2017, a judge dismissed Zakk's lawsuit, on the grounds that Zakk apparently did not have any of these agreements in writing, which the statute of frauds would require since so much time would elapse between any oral agreement and the execution of said agreement. The judge also found that Zakk first claimed only a single oral agreement, before amending the complaint to include others, which was being referred to as a "sham pleading."

George Zakk appealed that judge's ruling and, according to THR, this week a California Appeals court sided with Zakk. The appeals court found that while Zakk's three different complaints, amended at various times, were unclear, they agreed that there were actually multiple oral agreements that had been put in place over time. In addition, the statute of frauds did not apply because Zakk alleges that he performed all duties he was required to perform under the agreement.

Other aspects of George Zakk's original lawsuit remain closed following this new ruling, but this decision is enough to bring all the parties back to court to deal with the resurrected issues. Considering that Vin Diesel was taking meetings about a fourth xXx movie has recently as a couple months ago, plans to continue the franchise are obviously still moving forward. It's too early to tell if this lawsuit could put the new movie on hold while issues are resolved.

Zakk's original lawsuit claimed that he was owned upwards of $250,000 for the xXx sequel, but one assumes Zakk will also want to see a share of the upcoming movie as well if the project moves forward.

Considering that it took almost two years for the court to rule on this appeal, this suit certainly isn't on the fast track. A fourth xXx movie could be out in theaters before we get another ruling. The only winner in that situation might be Revolution Studios. They sold the rights to the xXx franchise to The H Collective, Vin Diesel, and Diesel's production label One Race Films after the third film, so they won't be on the hook for any future films.
